1–11. Предсказание и символическое действие, совершенное пророком Ананией. 12–17. Ответ Иеремии на это предсказание.

1It happened the same year, in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the fourth year, in the fifth month, that Hananiah the son of Azzur, the prophet, who was of Gibeon, spoke to me in the house of the Lord, in the presence of the priests and of all the people, saying,

2"Thus speaks the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, saying, 'I have broken the yoke of the king of Babylon.

3Within two full years will I bring again into this place all the vessels of the Lord's house, that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon took away from this place, and carried to Babylon:

4and I will bring again to this place Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, with all the captives of Judah, who went to Babylon,' says the Lord; 'for I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon.'"

5Then the prophet Jeremiah said to the prophet Hananiah in the presence of the priests, and in the presence of all the people who stood in the house of the Lord,

6even the prophet Jeremiah said, "Amen: Lord do so; the Lord perform your words which you have prophesied, to bring again the vessels of the Lord's house, and all them of the captivity, from Babylon to this place.

Иеремия хочет сказать: «хорошо бы было, если бы твое предсказание на самом деле осуществилось!» Иеремии самому было тяжело предсказывать 70-ти летний плен своему народу.

7Nevertheless hear you now this word that I speak in your ears, and in the ears of all the people:

8The prophets who have been before me and before you of old prophesied against many countries, and against great kingdoms, of war, and of evil, and of pestilence.

Истинность призвания пророка Иеремия здесь доказывает тем, что пророк говорит неприятное слушателям и этим подвергает себя опасности. Значит, уже велико было действие Духа Божия, заставлявшего говорить пророков в таком тоне, если они все-таки говорили! Отсюда можно заключить о том, что они были истинные посланники Божии.

9The prophet who prophesies of peace, when the word of the prophet shall happen, then shall the prophet be known, that the Lord has truly sent him."

Моисей (Втор XVIII:22) повелевал только тогда признавать известного человека за пророка, когда какое-либо пророчество его сбудется.

10Then Hananiah the prophet took the bar from off the prophet Jeremiah's neck, and broke it.

11Hananiah spoke in the presence of all the people, saying, "Thus says the Lord: 'Even so will I break the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon within two full years from off the neck of all the nations.'" The prophet Jeremiah went his way.

В противоположность Иеремии, утверждавшему, что плен вавилонский продолжится 70 лет, некто Анания из Гаваона стал говорить, что ему будто бы открыто Богом другое, именно, что этот плен продолжится только два года, и что спустя два года из плена вернется даже царь Иехония. Иеремия на это сказал, что Ананию можно будет признать истинным пророком только тогда, когда его пророчество сбудется. Тогда раздраженный Анания разломал то ярмо, какое носил на себе Иеремия.

12Then the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, after that Hananiah the prophet had broken the bar from off the neck of the prophet Jeremiah, saying,

13"Go, and tell Hananiah, saying, 'Thus says the Lord: You have broken the bars of wood; but you have made in their place bars of iron.

Сокрушение ярма Ананией было косвенным призывом к восстанию против Навуходоносора. Вот за это-то восстание Навуходоносор наложит на иудеев и других, им союзных народов, еще более тяжелое иго.

14For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: "I have put a yoke of iron on the neck of all these nations, that they may serve Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon; and they shall serve him: and I have given him the animals of the field also."'"

15Then the prophet Jeremiah said to Hananiah the prophet, "Hear now, Hananiah: the Lord has not sent you; but you make this people to trust in a lie.

16Therefore thus says the Lord, 'Behold, I will send you away from off the surface of the earth: this year you shall die, because you have spoken rebellion against the Lord.'"

Ложно говоривший от имени Иеговы Анания законно обрекается на смерть (Втор XIII:1 и сл.).

17So Hananiah the prophet died the same year in the seventh month.

Иеремия получает от Бога повеление объявить Анании, что ему придется вместо разломанного деревянного ярма одевать железное. Те народы, которые послушают Ананию и восстанут против Навуходоносора, еще тяжелее пострадают от его руки. Анания же, за свою ложь, должен скоро умереть. Это предсказание об Анании исполнилось в том же году.
