Day 8 of 40
Gospel of Mark: Mark 3:1–19
This meeting is already marked. You can read it again and think once more.
1Stop
“Speak, Lord; for your servant hears.”
1 Sam 3:9. Or simply be silent for a few seconds before reading.
2Read
1 He entered again into the synagogue, and there was a man there who had his hand withered.
2 They watched him, whether he would heal him on the Sabbath day, that they might accuse him.
3 He said to the man with the withered hand, "Stand up in the middle."
4 He said to them, "Is it lawful on the Sabbath day to do good, or to do harm? To save a life, or to kill?" But they were silent.
5 When he had looked around at them with anger, being grieved at the hardening of their hearts, he said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." He stretched it out, and his hand was restored.
6 The Pharisees went out, and immediately conspired with the Herodians against him, how they might destroy him.
7 Jesus withdrew to the sea with his disciples, and a great multitude followed from Galilee, from Judea,
8 from Jerusalem, from Idumaea, beyond the Jordan, and those from around Tyre and Sidon. A great multitude, when they heard what great things he did, came to him.
9 And he told his disciples that a small boat should stay near him because of the crowd, so that they would not press on him.
10 For he had healed many, so that as many as had diseases pressed on him that they might touch him.
11 The unclean spirits, whenever they saw him, fell down before him, and shouted, "You are the Son of God!"
12 And he sternly warned them that they should not make him known.
13 And he went up into the mountain, and called to himself those whom he wanted, and they went to him.
14 And he appointed twelve, designating them apostles, and that he might send them out to preach,
15 and to have authority to cast out demons:
16 And he appointed the Twelve: Simon, to whom he gave the name Peter;
17 Jacob the son of Zebedee; John, the brother of Jacob, and he surnamed them Boanerges which means, Sons of Thunder;
18 Andrew; Philip; Bartholomew; Matthew; Thomas; Jacob, the son of Alphaeus; Thaddaeus; Simon the Zealot;
19 and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.

And the psalm of the day: Ps 5
1 Give ear to my words, Lord. Consider my meditation.
2 Listen to the voice of my cry, my King and my God; for to you do I pray.
3 Lord, in the morning you shall hear my voice. In the morning I will lay my requests before you, and will watch expectantly.
4 For you are not a God who has pleasure in wickedness. Evil can't live with you.
5 The arrogant shall not stand in your sight. You hate all workers of iniquity.
6 You will destroy those who speak lies. The Lord abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man.
7 But as for me, in the abundance of your loving kindness I will come into your house. I will bow toward your holy temple in reverence of you.
8 Lead me, Lord, in your righteousness because of my enemies. Make your way straight before my face.
9 For there is no faithfulness in their mouth. Their heart is destruction. Their throat is an open tomb; with their tongue they are deceitful.
10 Hold them guilty, God. Let them fall by their own counsels; Thrust them out in the multitude of their transgressions, for they have rebelled against you.
11 But let all those who take refuge in you rejoice, Let them always shout for joy, because you defend them. Let them also who love your name be joyful in you.
12 For you will bless the righteous. Lord, you will surround him with favor as with a shield.

11 Give us today our daily bread.
