1–31. Разделение левитов.

1Moreover, David and the captains of the army set apart for the service certain of the sons of Asaph, and of Heman, and of Jeduthun, who should prophesy with harps, with stringed instruments, and with cymbals: and the number of those who did the work according to their service was:

. Для храмового пения назначаются левиты трех поколений; Каафа — Еман с сыновьями, Гирсона — Асаф и Мерари — Ефан, или Идифун (1 Пар VI:33: см. примечания). Их выделение совершается, между прочим, «начальниками войска», не войска в буквальном смысле, а собрания старейшин, так как еврейское слово «Цаба» значит не только войско, ведущее войну, но и вообще собрание существ всякого рода, подчиненное одним законам и служащее одной цели, в настоящем случае — собрание левитских старейшин, распределявших вместе с царем обязанности левитов.

. Как видно из девятого и дальнейших стихов, каждый из сыновей Емана, Асафа и Идифуна был назначен начальником отдельного хора.

3Of Jeduthun; the sons of Jeduthun: Gedaliah, and Zeri, and Jeshaiah, Hashabiah, and Mattithiah, six, under the hands of their father Jeduthun with the harp, who prophesied in giving thanks and praising the Lord.

. Следуя букве современного еврейского текста, стоящее после имени Маттафия слово «шиша» следует принимать за собственное имя. Но по указанию перевода LXX, это — числительное имя шесть. Недостающее для того число сыновей Идифуна дополняется именем Семея, о котором действительно упоминается в ст. 17.

4Of Heman; the sons of Heman: Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shebuel, and Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti, and Romamti-Ezer, Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir, Mahazioth.

5All these were the sons of Heman the king's seer in the words of God, to lift up the horn. God gave to Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.

. Еману присваивается название «видящий», которое и по значению и по употреблению в Св. Писании равносильно слову «пророк». Но так как данное качество Еману нигде более не усвояется, то некоторые переводчики понимают термин «видящий» в смысле «искусный», «сведущий», или, как LXX, по отношению к его искусству, «музыкант».

6All these were under the hands of their father for song in the house of the Lord, with cymbals, stringed instruments, and harps, for the service of God's house; Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman being under the order of the king.

7The number of them, with their brothers who were instructed in singing to the Lord, even all who were skillful, was two hundred eighty-eight.

. Число 288 получается следующим образом. У трех главных певцов было 24 сына (у Асафа — 4, у Идифуна — 6 и у Емана 14, ст. 2–4), и каждый являлся начальником отдельного хора, состоящего из 12 человек. 24х12 и дают 288. Таким образом, сообразно с 24 священническими чредами было организовано 24 левитских хора. Все эти певцы называются «обученными петь пред Господом, знающими свое дело», чем отличаются от остальных певцов (XXIII:5), очевидно, менее опытных.

8They cast lots for their offices, all alike, as well the small as the great, the teacher as the scholar.

9Now the first lot came forth for Asaph to Joseph: the second to Gedaliah; he and his brothers and sons were twelve:

Как видно из данных стихов, очереди были распределены между певцами в таком порядке: четырем сынам Асафа достались первая, третья, пятая и седьмая; шести сынам Идифуна — вторая, четвертая, восьмая, десятая, двенадцатая и четырнадцатая; четырем первым сынам Емана — шестая, девятая, одиннадцатая и тринадцатая, а остальным десяти прочие, т. е. 15–24.
